Microsoft unveils five-point blueprint for responsible AI governance in India

Microsoft’s Brad Smith authored a report titled “Governing AI: A Blueprint for India” that outlines a roadmap for the ethical development and deployment of artificial intelligence (AI) in India. The report reflects Microsoft’s commitment to responsible AI practices and provides valuable insights into AI’s societal impact. Additionally, it outlines a strategic framework to ensure that AI positively influences India’s future.

Microsoft offers a five-point blueprint to advance AI governance, particularly tailored to India:

  • Implement and build upon new government-led AI safety frameworks.
    • Require effective safety brakes for AI systems that control critical infrastructure.
    • Develop a broader legal and regulatory framework based on the technology architecture for AI.
    • Promote transparency and ensure academic and public access to AI.
    • Pursue new public-private partnerships to use AI as an effective tool to address the inevitable societal challenges that come with new technology.
